Christian Christmas Decorations 2026: 8 Ideas That Tell the Christmas Story

For many families, Christmas decorations are more than snowmen and reindeer: they're a way to tell the story of Jesus' birth to everyone who walks past, and to the children at home. You don't need a church-sized Nativity set to do it. Here are 8 Christian Christmas decoration ideas for 2026, from a Nativity scene in lights on the balcony to a Jesse tree for Advent, a candle in the window on Christmas Eve and words of faith that glow on the shelf.

1. A Nativity scene in lights on the balcony or window

The Christian version of our smart curtain lights shows a glowing Nativity scene that people see from the street, along with the Star of Bethlehem, herald angels and a message of faith. Hang it on a balcony railing, under the porch roof or in a front window, pick the scene in the app or with the remote, and set the timer so it lights up every evening by itself. It's splash-resistant (IP44), for indoor and sheltered outdoor spots.

2. Let the Star of Bethlehem lead the way

The star that led the Wise Men to Bethlehem is one of the oldest Christmas symbols. Fix the star of a star waterfall light to the top of a garden tree, a post or a pole and let its strands fall around it, so a star shines over the path to your door. The solar version needs no socket: put the panel where it gets daylight.

3. Tell the Christmas story through Advent

With smart lights, one set can tell the story in parts. Show the herald angels in the first weeks of Advent, the Star of Bethlehem as Christmas comes closer, and the Nativity from Christmas Eve. In DIY mode you can draw a star or a cross yourself, or write a line like "Joy to the World" or "Glory to God" in the app.

4. Light a Jesse tree for Advent

A Jesse tree takes its name from Isaiah's prophecy of a shoot from the stump of Jesse. Through Advent, families hang one small symbol a day for a story from the Bible, from creation to the birth of Jesus, and read the story together. A lighted birch tree makes a lovely Jesse tree: you can hang light paper or felt ornaments on its bendable branches, and its warm glow turns the daily reading into a small ritual.

5. A candle in the window on Christmas Eve

In Ireland, a candle in the window on Christmas Eve is an old sign of welcome for Mary and Joseph, who found no room at the inn. Flameless pillar candles keep the tradition without an open flame: the 3D flame flickers softly, and the remote's timer turns them off after 2 to 8 hours and on again at the same time the next day.

6. Candles on the tree, the traditional way

Candles on the Christmas tree are an old tradition, and many Christians see them as a reminder that Christ is the light of the world. Wireless LED taper candles clip onto the branches and each one runs on its own battery, so there's no cable from candle to candle and the whole tree lights up from the remote.

7. A little chapel in the Christmas village

If you set up a Christmas village on the windowsill or the mantel, give it a chapel. The Snowy Chapel is a small painted resin church with snow on the roof and a warm LED that makes its arched windows glow. Put it at the heart of the village, or next to your Nativity set.

8. Words of faith in lights

Marquee letters spell whatever you want on a shelf, the mantel or the windowsill: JOY, NOEL, HOPE, PEACE, GLORIA or EMMANUEL. They stand on their own and run on batteries, so they can move from the Advent table to Christmas dinner.
