The Christmas table is where everyone ends up, so it deserves the best light in the house. The trick is to keep it low, warm and safe: nothing so tall that guests can't see each other, and no open flame next to napkins and greenery. Here are 8 Christmas table decoration ideas for 2026, plus a few rules for setting the table.
1. Candlelight without the flame
Flameless pillar candles give the warm flicker of real candles with no wax, smoke or flame next to the napkins and the greenery. Group three heights in the middle of the table on a tray or a wooden board with pine cones and sprigs of fir. Their remote dims them, and a timer switches them off after 2 to 8 hours and on again at the same time the next day.

Shown: flameless candles with remote, sets of three in white, ivory or smoke gray.
2. Fairy lights in a glass vase
Fill a clear vase, a glass jar or a hurricane lamp with a bundle of firecracker lights and the glass glows from the inside like a lantern. The 1.5 m set with 50 LEDs is the right size for a vase. It runs on USB, so a small power bank hidden behind the vase is all you need; no cable across the table.

Shown: firecracker fairy lights, warm white on a bendable silver wire.
3. A ribbon of light down the middle
Lay a ribbon light in loose waves along the middle of the table, between the candles and the greenery, and the whole table runner glows. Gold ribbon with warm white LEDs suits a classic red and green table; silver with cool white looks wintry with white and glass. The battery box tucks under a plate or the greenery.

Shown: Christmas ribbon lights; 5 m is plenty for a dining table.
4. A tiny village as the centrepiece
For a cosy table, set a row of little light-up houses on a strip of white felt down the middle. They are 6 to 9 cm tall, so everyone can still see across the table, and they run on button batteries with no cables. On the kids' table, a light-up tree with a little train circling its base keeps everyone watching.

5. Place cards on a string of light
Run a string of photo clip lights along the back of the table, over the sideboard or across the window behind it, and clip on each guest's name card or an old family photo. After dinner, the same string holds this year's Christmas cards.

Shown: photo clip string lights, 2 m, 5 m or 10 m with clear clips, battery powered.
6. Mirror sparkle for New Year's Eve
After Christmas, keep the candles and add mini disco balls: scatter them between the glasses or pile a few in a bowl. Real mirror tiles catch the candlelight and throw little sparkles across the table and the ceiling. The tiles are glass, so keep them away from small children.

Shown: mini disco ball ornaments, 5 cm, in packs of 10, 20 or 30.
7. Spell out 2027
Stand light-up marquee numbers on the sideboard or at the end of the table to spell 2027 for New Year's Eve. Each number is 22 cm tall with warm white LEDs and runs on two AA batteries, so it can go anywhere. After midnight, they work for birthdays too.

Shown: light-up marquee numbers, sold one number at a time: for 2027, two 2s, one 0 and one 7.
8. A glowing sideboard behind the table
The table looks even better with a soft glow behind it. A lighted birch tree on the sideboard or a windowsill adds warm light at eye level without taking up space on the table.

Shown: lighted birch tree, about 60 cm, USB or batteries.
A few rules for the table
- Keep everything in the middle of the table below about 30 cm, so guests can see each other and talk.
- Next to greenery, paper napkins and crackers, use flameless candles only.
- Hide battery boxes and power banks under the greenery or a charger plate.
- Stick to one white: warm white with gold and red, cool white with silver and glass.
- Switch everything on 15 minutes before guests arrive; the candle timer does it by itself every evening.
